|Saturday July 12, 2008, the City of Glen Cove Volunteer Fire Department was on Stand-By at the Uniondale Fire Department, Van Ness firehouse. The GCVFD standby crew was on Engine 528 with driver 4-1, officer 3-1, ff Melillo & son, ff Venturino, ff Newman, ff Mele, and ff Makin. Uniondale Fire Department has three firehouses and covers a large area, including Hofstra University, the Meadowbrook, and the Southern State Parkways.|
During the standby Engine 528 and crew responded to 4 alarms on a very busy evening. Of the four alarms, Engine 528 and UFD Manor Engine Company 755 "Little Squirt" responded to a Signal 9 MVA motorcycle accident on the Southern State Parkway, and later in the evening to a Signal 8 rubbish fire along with UFD's brand new Pierce Engine 7533.
