On November 22nd around 2:25pm, Glen Cove Fire Dispatch signed on the air with a general alarm report of smoke coming from the building at 11 Westland Drive. The first unit to arrive on Morgan Island was 5201 who transmitted a Signal 10 before he reached the residence due to the large column of black smoke rising into the air. Chief Tripp arrived on scene and noticed one section of the house was fully engulfed in flames, he then setup command and notified our dispatcher to have the 1st due engine to pickup the hydrant and lay in and also leave room for the ladder (5211) in the front of the building. Engine 528 was the first engine to arrive on the scene, Capt. Grella took charge of operations at the scene, units 528, 5211, 524, 522, 527, 5202 & 526 were on scene. The fire moved through the house very quickly so additional resources were needed, mutual aid was received from locust Valley (Fast Team) and Sea Cliff (Engine) to the scene and the fire was under control in about 2 1/2  hours.  Bayville Fd (Engine) and Roslyn Fd (Ladder) were standing by at HQ and for EMS Glenwood and Jericho Fire Departments covered all ambulanc calls. Mayor Ralph Suozzi responded to the scene to Thank the firefighters for doing a good job as well as setting the family up with Emergency housing for the night.
