| GCVFD FIREFIGHTERS REPAIR FIRE SIREN written by SJB, 06.01.2008 |
| Not only do the volunteer firefighters of the City of Glen Cove put time into training and being at the ready for time of alarms, Glen Cove's Bravest donate their time in all facets of fire protection. Several firefighters spent numerous days restoring a damaged fire siren and spent several hours on June 1, 2008, installing the repaired and freshly painted siren by Dosoris Lane and Woolsey Ave. The Signal 9 and General Alarm Siren is now fully operational and essential to alerting firefighters of fire/rescue emergencies in the City of Glen Cove. Glen Cove firefighters got a lending hand from neighboring Locust Valley Fire Department supplying their Tower Ladder 546. Special thanks to Jimmy Neumeyer and Brian Plumb from LVFD and to the siren committee. Asst Chief Rodni Leftwich, Bob Citko, Bob Marino, Louie Mele, Andrew Melillo, Al Shakal, Sang Bae and Asst Chief Joseph Solomito with help on this project What inspired us to volunteer? It was the sounds of the town’s fire sirens and horns? For most of us YES it was!! Many residents think pagers negate the use of them.....Sirens……. The truth is, audible alarms are still required by law as a back-up system ISO insurance requires them for quality ratings..... AND They supply a safety alert notification to the community that volunteers are enroute to save life and property... It could very well be yours! Unlike an audible siren a pager does little for the community as a whole!
