| GLEN COVE TRUCK 5211 AND ENGINE 528 BLESSES SYOSSET written by SJB, 06.08.2008 |
| On the second day of the pre summer heatwave, Sunday June 8, 2008, the City of Glen Cove Volunteer Fire Department sent tiller 5211 and engine 528 to Syosset Fire Department's wetdown. (Syosset Fire Department is in the same 5th Battalion as the Glen Cove Vol. Fire Dept.) Syosset Fire Department replaced nearly all their fire engines with 5 brand new identical Pierce pumpers and replaced their ambulances. Syosset's new fleet ensures full fire and ems protection for their residents. "Wetdown" ceremonies are in part a fire service tradition, where the apparatus are dedicated and "blessed" prior to being put into operation. It would be fitting that one of the oldest and last remaining working tiller trucks, Glen Cove's own truck 5211 would be there to join in the momentous occasion.
